5500 BC-3800 BC
Ubaid Period. The earliest traces of human settlement discovered
on Dalma, Abu Dhabi
3800 BC-1250 BC
Bronze age period. Longest period after stone age in UAE
1250 BC-350 BC
Iron Age period. In this period the Falaj (a form of irrigation
system) was invented and farming communities were rising
everywhere.
350 BC-300 AD
Pre-Islamic, Hellenistic period
300- 632
Sasanian period
622
The Islamic Era in the UAE started. UAE inhabitants and the
people of Oman adopted Islam voluntarily
1820
General Treaty of peace between the British Government and the
Sheikhs of Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman, Sharjah, Dubai
and Abu Dhabi is signed.
1820
The treaty was about to combat piracy in Gulf area. From this,
the area becomes known as the Trucial Coast.
1950s
Oil is discovered.
1952
Trucial council was formed by Seven Emirates.
1962
Oil is exported for the first time from Abu
Dhabi.
1968
British Prime Minister Harold Wilson, announces the plan for the
complete withdrawal of all British forces from the Gulf by the
end of 1971.
1971
After the independence. Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujayrah,
Sharjah, and Umm al-Qaywayn come together as the United Arab
Emirates (UAE). Sheikh Zayed Bin-Sultan Al Nuhayyan becomes the
president.
1971
UAE joins the Arab League
1981
The Gulf Cooperation Council, is formed and it’s first meeting
is held in Abu Dhabi.
1990
The UAE condemns the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait
1995
UAE call for an end to Iraqi embargo.
1998
UAE restores diplomatic relations with Iraq.
2004
UAE President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan passes away
and is succeeded by his son, Sheikh Khalifa.
2006
First-ever national elections. A small number
voters choose half of the members of the Federal National
Council.
